Uganda Govt. Cabinet Reshuffle
The Cabinet Reshuffle is finally here!
Why am I so excited about politics this one time?
1. Health Ministers - Jim Muhwezi and Mike Mukula etc. have been fired. Following the suspension in August 2005 of five grants worth US $367 million, questions had arisen regarding these fellows' integrity. This is one positive step towards curbing corruption.... or is it just a gimmick to cool down the international community?
2. Hillary Onek has been appointed as a Minister - although I'm still mad that he is only one of two Acholi Ministers in the entire cabinet of over 60 while a lumpsum 26 are from Western Uganda
3. Ministry of Information Communications Technology - Finally someone up in the State House must have read Friedman's "The World is Flat" and realise that for Uganda to compete in the fast flattening world, we need to borrow a leaf from our counterparts in India and China.
I wonder what agenda this Ministry has and what employment opportunities will open up for IT and Computer Scientists like us as a result of this.
Hopefully, the Ugandan govt. will start to invest in research labs so that we students don't have to seek opportunities in the US for mind stimulating projects.
While the govt. is at it, could someone please remind M7 to turn on the electricity in Kampala. Surely you don't expect any sort of sensible devlpment/investment without a reliable source of energy.
